Good evening Brothers and Sisters,

Please find attached Bible Study Outline for Sunday, February 9, 2025 on the topic Obadiah: a willing vessel in perilous times.  This is the next study in our Quarter Series entitled “The Impact of Unsung Heroes in the Bible”.  The main text is 1 Kings 18:1-16 and the key learning points are as follows:

  1. God can, and does, work in and through us even if we find ourselves in hostile environments working for ungodly people, and at great risk to ourselves. 1 Kings 18:4.

  1. When we fear God greatly, we can overcome the fear of even men with the power to do us harm to carry the will of God. 1Kings 18:8-9, 16

  1. God calls His ministers to stand forth and show themselves. Obadiah was better able to face the prospects of possible affliction or persecution from his master and his wife by keeping his eyes on God and working with humility and Godly wisdom. 1 Kings 18:15 -16

Yours in His service

Dear All,

In our study on the topic: Dedicated to God, we learned, among other things, that God desires that we dedicate the entirety of our lives – skills, talents, gifts, possessions, etc. to His glory and for His service.

This Sunday, our concluding topic on the series from the Book of Nehemiah is: Lessons from Nehemiah – Revival of God’s People

Key lessons include:

1.     Ongoing revival requires a high level of spiritual vigilance and courage to confront permissiveness in our personal lives and in the church.

2.     Compromise is a major enemy to revival

3.     To keep the revival fire burning steadily, we must hold ourselves accountable to God and aware of his presence in every situation.

2 Corinthians 4:1

Dear All,

Last Sunday we looked at the topic: Our Commitment to God. One of our key lessons was that Our commitment to God should be a commitment to follow Jesus as revealed in Scripture.

This Sunday, our topic is: Dedicated to God.

Key Learning include:

1.     Dedication has featured from the Old to the New Testament and it is still relevant today.

2.     Dedication of anything or person is a thing of joy and rejoicing rather than fear of losing the thing or person

3.     Every child of God – young and old, male, and female, persons of all types of skills, must be dedicated to God and to His service.

2 Corinthians 4:1

This Sunday, our topic is: Our Commitment to God.

Key Learning include:

1.     Our commitment to God should be a commitment to follow Jesus as revealed in Scripture

Our topic last Sunday was: Right Attitude to God’s Word. We saw from it, among other things, that one critical attitude to God’s word is that of obedience.

This Sunday, our topic is: The Path to Restoration.

Key Learning include:

1.     Confession and any manner of self-abasement has to be followed through with a separation or removal of self from the sinful habit or situation for restoration to take place

2.     As people given to rebellion towards God, only a practice of gazing on God’s holiness and majesty will keep us seeking restoration

3.     Only by God’s grace through Christ can rebellious man hope for restoration

Dear All,

Our topic last Sunday was: Remain Focused on the Task. We learnt, among other things that, even amidst tough challenges, we can still get the job done if we stay focused.

This Sunday, our topic is: Right Attitude to God’s Word.

Key lessons should include that:

1.     Physical prosperity and restoration with attention to the word of God will only end up in further disaster

2.     God has given us teachers and the Holy Spirit to help us gain insight and understand His written word. We must pay close attention to them.

3.    The word of God is for our obedience not just for our enlightenment.

Dear All,

Last Sunday, we looked at Nehemiah 5 on the topic: Overcoming Evil with Good. One reminder from that lesson is that we should not stop at lamenting the neediness around us. Rather, as followers of Jesus, we ought to do something to help the needy around us in favorable and unfavorable times.

This Sunday, our topic is: Remain Focused on the Task.

Key lessons should include that:

1.     Fear is a weapon of the enemy to weaken our hands and to stop God’s work.

2.     Satan is relentless and will employ every means to discredit and distract the work of God

3.     When we stay focused on the work, all the enemies earlier arrayed against us will end up widening the circle of God’s glory when the task is finished.

Dear All,

Last Sunday, Nehemiah, in chapter 4 taught us that doing the work of God will not exempt us from opposition.

This Sunday, our topic is: Overcoming Evil with Good.

Key lessons should include that:

1. Social injustice is an evil that must be confronted both in the Church and outside the Church

2. The glory of God is also tied to the welfare of the people HE created, especially those saved by grace through Jesus Christ.

3. It is not enough to call out instances of social injustice. We must, as followers of Jesus, act to help the needy around us in favorable and unfavorable times

Dear All,

Last Sunday, we looked at Nehemiah chapter 3. Our topic was Rebuilding the Wall. One of the key lessons from that study was that the glory and worship of God should be at the heart of every effort to build or rebuild the house of God.

This Sunday, our topic is: Overcoming Opposition.

Key lessons should include that:

  1. Doing the work of God will not exempt us from facing opposition.
  2. When we are faced with opposition, our first response should be to turn to God for help and to depend on Him to fight for us.
  3. As we depend on God to fight for us, we should not neglect to take the practical steps he leads or opens our eyes to take. Faith (prayer) and action do not contradict each other.

Dear All,

In our study of Nehemiah chapter 2 on the topic Pray and Act, we saw how praying and acting work together in accomplishing the task God has laid on our hands.

This Sunday, our topic is: Rebuilding the Wall.

Key lessons should include that:

1.     The glory and worship of God is at the heart of every effort to build or rebuild the house of God (in all our effort to serve in the house of God).

2.     Harmony and teamwork are crucial in accomplishing the task no matter how big the task may seem.

3.     All our building efforts should be geared towards advancing the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Jesus is the ONLY foundation on which any of us should build. And so, let us be earnest about the task.

2 Corinthians 4:1
