How are you doing today? I trust this meets you well.

Last Sunday we looked at our responsibility to civil authorities. This Sunday, we continue in Romans chapter 13. And this time, we would be focusing on our responsibility to each other, not just as believers, but as human beings. We will be looking at this under the topic: Love, The Fulfillment of the Law.

Key Learning points include:

1. To “owe nothing to anyone except for your debt to Love one another” makes loving others (believers and non-believers) as the only debt (obligation) which God places on the believer, and which no believer can ever, and is ever expected to get out of.
2. Love fulfills all requirements of the Law. We all love ourselves so much that none of us would like his life, property, spouse, to be taken by another. In similar manner, if we show the same love for others, we would have ended up fulfilling God’s commands in relation to Himself and to others. In this way, love ties all the law under one heading Romans 13:10a.
3. There is an urgency to this call to love others: The night is almost gone, the day of salvation is here… therefore, we must turn away from a sinful life and start to execute the life of love today.

How are you doing? Welcome to the month of June.

We continue with our quarter series on The Power of God at Work in us. This time, we consider a matter which is a stumbling block for both believers and unbelievers – the usefulness of obeying the law regarding salvation. We shall be considering this matter under the topic The Law Cannot Save From Sin.

Key Learning points are:

1. The law cannot save because the binding characteristics of the law puts one who relies on the law under the strongest possible obligation to adhere to it 100% 
2. The reality of humans is that we are utterly depraved and lost. And the law, as good as it is, is neither able to produce righteousness in us, nor the desire to pursue what is right in the sight of God.
3. The Law was never given to save or to sanctify. Rather it was given to reveal our sinfulness and condemnation, and to drive us to Christ.

In continuation of our quarter series on Love: A More Excellent Way, we shall be looking at Love fulfilling the law. See attached outline for your reference.

Key Learning points:

1.     Love is enormously important to the Christian life because that is how we show that we are children of God. So, the ten commandments, and any other commandment there may be, are basically examples of what loving God and loving others look like in day-to-day life and in various circumstances. Love, then, fulfills the covenant obligations that God has given his children

2.     Believers can fulfill every demand of the Mosaic Law by loving others.

3.     The law has always pointed to Jesus Christ: “For Christ has already accomplished the purpose for which the law was given. As a result, all who believe in him are made right with God” 

May love abound among us.
