Our series on the Person and work of the Holy Spirit continues this Sunday with a look at His sanctifying work in the believer. See attached outline for your reference.

Key Learning Points should include:

1. The Holy Spirit is the one that sanctifies the believer and this work of sanctification by the Holy Spirit starts at the time of our salvation when we come to believe the truth of the Gospel of Christ. And the goal is that we become obedient to Jesus Christ.

2. The sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit in the believer continues in our daily walk with God as we grow in obedience to the word of God. While we have a part to play in obedience, it is a work of grace not a work of man.

3. The sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit will continue until we become exactly like Jesus. This will happen when Christ returns.

May our whole spirit, soul and body be sanctified to the glory of God.

Key Learnings should include:

1.     The Holy Spirit’s seal is God’s stamp of ownership on the believer. As one means of guaranteeing His promises to those who have received Jesus Christ, God has sealed [them] in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise. Every believer is given the very Holy Spirit of God the moment he trusts in Christ.

2.     The sealing of the Holy Spirit guarantees the benefits of our salvation, as a person might seal an envelope to guarantee its enclosures. The Holy Spirit is the seal to the believer and is also a “down payment” of His commitment to someday give him all other things God has promised.

3.     The Holy Spirit’s seal unites all believers under the family of God and removes every division of race or tribe, etc. It thus frees us and enables our mandate to proclaim, teach, minister, and defend God’s Word and His gospel with the Lord’s own authority to every human on earth.
