Theme: Spiritual Discipline for Christian Growth
Dear All,
In the second study, last Sunday, in our series on Spiritual Disciplines for Christian Growth we looked at the spiritual discipline of Prayer. In it, we saw that prayer is vital in our relationship with God, and thus the need for doing it right, among other lessons. This Sunday, we kick off the series with a look at the topic: Spiritual Discipline: Worship.
Key lessons should include:
- Jesus’ conversation with the Samaritan woman helps us see that if we must worship God on His terms, then we must de-emphasize the place (some mountain or temple/church). Rather, we must focus on knowing who we are worshipping and seeking to be one with His Spirit. Accepting Jesus as Lord and Saviour is how we begin the journey of worshipping God in Spirit.
- There is acceptable and unacceptable worship. Singing praise songs to God and any other acts of ‘worship’ not done in Christ nullifies such worship. Worship is a spiritual exercise where our spirit connects with God’s Spirit. Hence true worship is done in spirit and in truth
- True worship is not just what we say and do. But involves our whole lives and everything we do. As our spirit continuously stays connected with the Holy Spirit, worship permeates all our being, and we can then offer ourselves completely to God in all areas of life. Worship is therefore our responsibility, as people who have experienced God’s grace and mercy.
May we grow in worshipping God with our whole life, in Spirit and in truth.
