Theme: Lessons from the Life of Jesus
It is Fathers’ Day this Sunday and our Bible Study takes a look at Jesus’ teaching on the Father’s Love. Please see attached outline for your reference and preparation.Key lesson should include:
- When the son was old enough to make his own decision (foolish as it was) the father let him make it ─ he loved him enough to let go. God, our Father, is like this. He lets us go too. We are free to disobey Him if we want. We can reject and abandon the Church. We can ignore all the wise counsel of His word and promptings of His Holy Spirit and go our own way if we want to.
- But like the father in the parable, God loves us enough to deny Himself and allow His children to choose the way they live and live the way they choose. Also, like the father in the parable, God’s love does not end with a “goodbye.” He eagerly awaits our return. A father’s love should be strong enough to risk rejection to gain true faithfulness and love in return
- Like the father of the prodigal, any repentant son or daughter can expect full restoration from our Heavenly Father and not condemnation.
May God strengthen us in our inner man so that we can get a better grasp of how deep and wide and strong is His love for us.
Happy Fathers’ Day.
