“Health is a state of complete harmony of the body, mind and spirit. When one is free from physical disabilities and mental distractions, the gates of the soul open.” ~B.K.S. Iyengar. Canadian health Ministry further explains that healthy living is about making healthy choices every day; healthy choices that keep us fit physically, mentally and spiritually. Wisdom is required to ensure we maintain balance in life by making informed choices about our health. Various research has proven again and again, that having and living out faith in God leads to a healthy life and also quick recovery from sickness when inflicted with diseases. Exodus 15:26 is a promise.
Some important facts about healthy living are stated in the scriptures and we need to understand these to enjoy the full promises of God. 1. Our bodies are the temple of God according to 1 Cor 6: 19-20.Because our bodies are important, we have responsibility to care for it. Did you know that God cares about our bodies, not just our souls? God made our bodies. He designed us to be embodied. He knit us together in our mothers’ wombs (Psalm 139:13). And Jesus Himself took on a human body. The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us (John 1:14). 2. In accordance with 3rd John 1: 2 ,“Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well”, It is God’s desire that we are healthy. 3. A peaceful heart leads to a healthy body; jealousy is like cancer in the bones- Proverbs 14:30 (NLT). A heart at peace with the Lord and his neighbours produces healthy body. With a peaceful heart and life, stress is removed. Recent Wall street journal research has proven that high stress levels raises cholesterol levels. 4. According to our memory verse, Prov 17:22, a cheerful heart is medicine itself. A good laugh every now and then, irrespective of the situation around you.
What we eat is probably one of the best way to live a healthy life. God planted a garden full of green plants for food. Genesis 1: 28-30. Is it safe to say that our first parents fed mostly on green plants and all associated products? Daniel and the Hebrew children resolved to eat only vegetables in Daniel 1:8-16. There was a noticeable change in the health outlook (Daniel 1:15)
Wisdoms recommends that we develop good healthy habits. You develop these healthy habits by repeating positive healthy actions some daily, weekly etc as may be required. These positive actions includes daily exercise, regular health checks, taking any identified deficient minerals or vitamins on the advice of doctors. Suggest others.
